Techpedia Daily 1: Speed Firefox Search

Welcome to Techpedia Daily. The first in our daily collection of quick tips and tricks to make your computer easier and faster.

Mozilla Firefox inline search is great, highlight a search term, right click, and there in the context menu is the button to click to search the current search engine in the search box for that term. But you're quite limited to one engine. To use another, you need to switch engines from the search box. Heres how to make the task faster.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8
has incorporated a new feature known as "Accelerators," which lets you search for text with a choice of many engines inline without leaving your page. Now how about Firefox?

A new add-on known as Kallout gives this same feature to Firefox will full IE8 Accelerator support coming soon. Simply install Kallout from Mozilla Add-ons, restart, and you're good to go! Highlight any term, phrase, even paragraph, then a button with a blue bubble appears. Simply mouse over that, and you get a wide organized range of services and engines to search from. The first on the menu (not organized into a menu) is the default engine in your search bar. I would like to point out that currently, this might not function properly on Blogger.
As always you can contact me by chatting in the Digsby widget to the right or by sending an email to techpedia.mail@gmail.com. If you have any tips or tricks that you would like published here, send an email, chat message, or leave it in the comments section below. Thanks for reading Techpedia!

Email Address
Your email address is never made public unless you choose to make it public or provide it in the Offline Enquiries. In addition, when you provide us your online contact information through any of the application forms, we will never give away your email address. Your email is only used to reply to your contact questions, send you a contributor invite, and send you email subscriptions if you choose to receive them. If you provide your email address in the Offline Enquiries box (Cbox), keep in mind that we will not give away your email address however we do not guarantee that it will not be found by spam bots scanning our blog. See more below.

Digsby Widget Live Chat
Our live chat widgets are powered by Digsby. Their privacy policy can be found here.

The widget only loads when your page views it, meaning, if you are on the top of the page and you cannot see the widget, it does not load. The information sent is just your IP Address and the time you spent on the page. This time is calculated by comparing your computer time when the widget loaded, to the current time on our computer. IP Address is an Internet Protocol address that all computers connected to a network have and cannot be used to personally identify you. All chats are anonymous unless you choose to edit your nickname. Click on the existing nickname to edit. The default is "guest" followed by a random string of numbers. These numbers do not keep count at all. They are randomly generated. Disable this at any time by clicking the X on the widget. These chats are completely unlogged.

Cbox Offline Enquiries
This box is powered by Cbox. Their privacy policy can be found here.

This box lets you ask questions in case no one is online. However, keep in mind that this is a public chat box. Any message you reveal here is made public. Your email is made public under your name's link. Do not provide it if you do not want your email made public. The only required field is the message itself. You do not have to provide your name or email/url (this info is made public). Your name is "anonymous" if you leave the name space blank. As always, your IP Address is logged and if you are caught spamming, you WILL be banned.

The Use of Cookies
Like almost all sites, our blog uses a standard technology known as cookies. Cookies are very small text files with a small amount of coding that save preferences and record how you use the site. These cookies simply record how you use our site and your referring site. It can not be used to personally identify you or any of your information. Knowing how our readers use the site is important so we can work on improving the site. These cookies are also used to store your nicknames for our chat widgets and boxes, so you don't have to re-enter them each time. Cookies are also used to prevent manipulation of poll results. We post the website statistics in the sidebar so you can have some of the information too. Just about any site you find uses some type of cookie that can detect your location and other data. Once again, nothing personally identifiable is ever transferred.

This privacy policy may be modified as these third party applications are updated and/or we add new third party page elements.

About WinTechpedia™

Wintechpedia™ started off as Techipedia and was created on April 9, 2009 as a way to provide tips and tricks to help users can the most out of their computer. The basic idea was inspired by Lifehacker.

All software, webware, and other services and products mentioned here will be free of charge from their respective third-party publishers. Some may have an upgraded paid version available, however, they all have a fully functional lifetime free version.

We encourage the use of Open Source Software. Many of our posts are likely to be about open source software.

Most software and webware and other products mentioned here will work on Microsoft Windows. Some may also have a Mac OS X and/or Linux version. We tested all products mentioned here on Microsoft Windows. Selected ones are tested on Mac OS X and various Linux distributions especially Ubuntu.

We are committed to keeping this blog completely ad free at all times. It will not be monetized.

We are not affiliated with any of the publishers of the products mentioned here, unless otherwise specified.

Site embedded safety ratings have been provided by the Web of Trust (WOT). These ratings are provided so you can be more confident in clicking external links in our blog. Links that are marked as Dark Green have an excellent reputation and Light Green have a good reputation. You should not find any other colors here, but if you do, please contact us.

If you would like to view comments on the site, mouse over the link, and click on the View WOT Scorecard button that appears.

If you liked this site, visit our site's WOT scorecard by clicking here and leaving a comment. In this case, click the link, not the button.

Live Chat is currently provided by Digsby and responded by Freedomstar and Creastery depending on which box you use.
Requires Adobe Flash Player 9 or higher. Offline Enquiries is provided by Cbox and monitored by Creastery.

You may receive new post news through regular subscribing, email subscriptions, and/or following us on Twitter. We will follow back unless it is detected that you are using automated Twitter spamming systems.

Our forms use Google Docs in iFrame. Occasionally, it might trigger a clickjack false positive for programs like NoScript. Unblock it or view the form at Google Docs itself by clicking the link provided at the top of each form.

We write this blog to share information. If you happen to encounter problems, we are here to help but will not be held responsible for your computer. Before contacting us about software, please make sure you meet the minimum system requirements.

If any software (such as CCleaner) offers another program (such as Yahoo! Toolbar), please note that we are writing about the main program, not any bundled or offered program. Most software bundles other products as an optional offer, so read what you install carefully. We are not responsible if a bundled program is malicious, though that rarely occurs.

All our contributors write during their free time. If you would like to write for WinTechpedia™, please click here and fill out the application. Or click on Contribute on the navigation bar above.

Keep in mind that contributing requires a Google Account.
